Landing Pages

Lawbrokr · Software Developer Intern · May – Aug 2024

Background

Lawbrokr was the smallest startup I've worked at: four people, the CEO, CTO, CMO and me, the intern. I worked mostly with the CTO. Lawbrokr makes a suite of marketing tools for law firms, like ads and intake forms. If you've ever looked up a lawyer, you've probably noticed their websites aren't great. Most firms aren't very technical, so their sites end up outdated, and that hurts how easily people can find them.

Building it

I worked on Landing Pages, which is kind of like Shopify but for law firms. A firm picks a theme or template, fills in its details and configures the site the way it wants. In a couple of minutes, a firm can go from having nothing to a live site, no developer or agency needed! I built it on Rails and Postgres.

Looking back

With only four of us, there was nowhere to hide, in both the good way and the bad way. I got to work directly with the CTO on a feature real firms were using, and it was the most ownership I'd had up to that point. It was also the first time I took down prod! I shipped a feature without testing it thoroughly enough, and pretty soon after, I got a Slack message from the CEO.
